Meet the Maker Erica Naylor of Caroline & Clay. She creates minimalist, ceramic tableware in her studio in Chicago, IL.
Her work is thrown on a potter’s wheel and fired in a kiln. She glazes it clear to let the natural beauty of the porcelain show. Each piece of porcelain ceramic is fired a second time in the kiln to achieve the food, dishwasher and microwave safety level.
Don’t let the seemingly simple aspect of her work fool you. Each design has hours of thought and at the wheel. It’s incredibly discreet and beautifully functional. She wants her designs to feel fresh and new even when they are decades old.
Her work is intended for every day use and does not require any special care. All work is signed on the bottom. Each piece is hand thrown, trimmed and glazed so expect slight variations. Her collections includes plates, bowls, serving dishes, mugs and tumblers. She also has beautifully simple planters as well.
Welcome to Caroline & Clay!
