Meet the Maker, Kenny Pieper, of Pieper Glass based in North Carolina.
Kenny’s handcrafted exquisite line of glass pitchers, tumblers, vases, and goblets are the perfect wedding gifts and a great way to start a beautiful collection of glassware. His line of glassware reflects the harmony and beauty of his surroundings combined with his extensive knowledge of glass history.
Kenny was born in Birmingham, AL and was raised in the mountains of North Carolina. Beginning in high school Kenny studied at the Penland School of Crafts. Though his interest began in pottery, under Norm Schulman and Cynthia Bringle, he soon discovered a true passion for glass, under tutelage of Richard Ritter.
Under scholarship he moved to Detroit, MI to study at The Center for Creative Studies. After receiving his BFA from the California College of Art and Craft, in Oakland, CA he worked for 16 years as a glassblower in the San Francisco East Bay area.
Kenny's career came full circle when he moved back to North Carolina, working for his alma mater at the Penland School, while constructing his own studio. It was here he developed his expertise in the tradition of Italian glass.
He has work in the collections of Corning Museum of Glass, Museum of Fine Art Boston, New Bedford Msueum of Glass, Asheville Art Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, Hickory Museum of Art, as well as many private collections.
